GM Business Connect meet a lot of businesses and attended many events in and around Manchester. There was one person that we kept on bumping into and that was Becky Wilkes, Senior Sales and Marketing Manager for 20 Stories restaurant situated in the lofty heights of Spinningfields. Becky is also a founder and board member of Manchester Hospitality Network, which has changed networking in the city. We invited Becky to share her view of the Manchester Hospitality Sector with an interview which we recorded and from which created a podcast and video for our website.
GM Business Connect Magazine recently caught up with Manchester Central’s chief executive Shaun Hinds. In one of our first ‘Inspired Greater Manchester’ podcast and video interviews, we asked Shaun to give an insight into one of the UK’s premium event spaces:
Shaun, can you please introduce yourself and tell us what you do?
“I’m the Chief Executive here at Manchester Central. My role covers many things. We are a big, diverse venue in the heart of Manchester.

Julian – tell us about the history of Banging Drum and how you eventually landed in Manchester?

Jenny Campbell rose to fame recently on her appearance on Dragons’ Den, joining the Dragons in 2017. Originally from Hyde in Tameside, Jenny spent over 30 years initially with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. In the second of our specialist speed lectures from the University of Salford’s Business School, GM Business Connect visited with Associate Lecturer Martyn Willcock – Co-Director for the School’s Centre for Social Business. We asked Martyn to share with us his views on the definitions and role of Social Business within the wider business community, and how Salford Business School can help Greater Manchester businesses apply the attributes of Social Business to their own culture.

As the largest branch of the organisation in the Northwest, we were keen to see what the Institute meant to business in Greater Manchester and how Sharon was intending to grow the relationship between the IoD and the local business community.
Can you explain what the Institute of Directors organisation is about and how does it benefit the business community?
